Person & Covey, Inc. was established in 1941. During that period, the company operated primarily as a pharmaceutical distributor and repackager of ethical prescription type products under its own firm label. Sales continued to grow steadily, and the firm progressed from ethical products designed principally of interest to retail pharmacists to products of interest to general medicine, internal medicine and ophthalmology.
By 1958 the firm had nine original or supplemental effective New Drug Applications on file with the Food and Drug Administration. In 1958, the firm was converting from a regional pharmaceutical to a national company. Mr. Lorne V. Person incorporated the firm in 1959 and it remains today a family owned company. Person & Covey introduced Drysol, a topical treatment for hyperhidrosis. Culminating seven years of research and development, we released an original new drug, Solbar, a sunscreen product of interest to dermatologists in the prevention of sun-related photosensitive conditions. This product proved to be of interest not only to dermatologists, but also to plastic surgeons, allergists, etc. Since then, the firm has developed new products based on Solbar. They are Solbar 30 Plus, Solbar Avo cream Solbar Zinc, and Solbar PF 50 cream. Later, a family of dermatological products was developed. These include DHS Shampoo, DHS Clear Shampoo, DHS Zinc Dandruff Shampoo, DHS Tar Shampoo, DHS Tar Gel Shampoo, DHS Conditioning Rinse, Aquanil and Aquanil HC.
